In this engaging mixed-media class, students will explore gelli plate printing as a way to create richly colored, one of-a-kind painted papers.  Gelli printing is a simple and intuitive form of mono-printing that allows for playful experimentation with color, texture and layering - no prior experience required.

We will transform your collection of painted papers into unique collage prints created directly on the gelli plate.  In this class, students will use an intuitive approach to layering, arranging, and combining previously created gel prints into rich visual assemblages.  Through multiple layers, transfers, and pulls, you’ll discover how color, texture, and composition interact to create unexpected and exciting results.  This process encourages experimentation and play while exploring the creative possibilities of assemblage and collage within the gel printing process.  

 Materials:

• Bring to class any printed papers you have already created on the gelli plate. 
• Gelli Plate: (Gelli Arts)  8x10, can be ordered on Amazon. Don’t use Temu Brand or Speedball, they are not good for acrylic paints.
• Paints:  Tube paints such as Liquitex Basics (don’t buy heavy body) and Michael’s Paints are fine.  Inexpensive craft paints work but have less pigment.  If you are purchasing craft paint, Deco Art is good.  Paints have different opacity ratings so try and have a mix of opaque, semi-opaque and translucent.
• Brayer: 4” to start.
• Paper:  Costco Kirkland copy paper is a good paper to start with, or Staples True Red copy paper.  Cheap copy paper from the dollar store won’t work.  Rice paper (there are many different kinds to choose from on Amazon) and deli paper are also wonderful, also available on Amazon. White tissue paper is also fun to try.
• Water Color Paper: Canson or Srathmore, or any store brand like Michael’s, are inexpensive papers good for using to pull our collaged prints.  Make sure it covers the size of your gelli plate.  
• Stencils: Anything that is appealing to you. Make sure they aren’t paper stencils because they won’t hold up.
• Matte Medium
• Package of Baby Wipes 
• Paper Towels
