Are you inspired by the light, color, and expressive brushwork of the Impressionists?
This session of Great Artist Explorations will focus on the groundbreaking painters of the Impressionist movement and the artists they continue to influence today.
Students will study both well-known and lesser-known artists, exploring how painters like Monet, Degas, Renoir, Morisot, and others broke away from tradition to capture atmosphere, movement, and everyday moments. Through guided discussions, visual references, and hands-on studio work, students will experiment with techniques such as loose brushwork, color mixing, layering, and expressive mark-making.
Working in a variety of mediums, participants may choose to reinterpret a masterwork or create original pieces inspired by the artists’ approaches to light, subject matter, and style. Emphasis will be placed on learning from historical examples while developing a personal, contemporary voice.
This class is ideal for students who enjoy art history, painting, and experimentation — and who want to deepen their understanding of Impressionism while expanding their own creative practice.
